Satan’s Greatest Trick?

It has long been said that “the greatest trick Satan ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”

In trying to track the origins of this quote down, it quickly became apparent that we are not entirely sure who coined it. Most sources seem to point back to the French poet, Charles Baudelaire, in 1864. If so, it has been tweaked and reapplied in numerous ways by many since then.

Whatever its true origins and exact verbiage, we have all heard this statement and can grasp its meaning. I would wager that most of us have actually adopted this view over the course of time. It almost goes without saying anymore. And why not? It’s just so logical.

The thinking is that, if Satan doesn’t appear to exist, then neither does God.

Supposedly, this is Satan’s strongest desire (his “greatest trick”) and the very purpose of all his intentions. Creating atheists: that’s the goal, right? According to this quote, it is.

However—and as you probably expect from me—I completely disagree with these sentiments. Satan’s greatest trick is not convincing the world that he—and by default, God—doesn’t exist, and promoting atheism is not Satan’s chief goal.

Allow me to explain.

____________

Satan’s “Second Greatest Trick”

While most people are familiar with the quote about “Satan’s greatest trick,” far fewer are aware of the one that is usually attributed to Ken Ammi:

Once again, whether Ammi was really the first to formulate these words, I don’t know. What I can say is that others (including myself) have also come to this conclusion independent of Ammi. In fact, I suggest that the “second greatest trick” is rightfully the first. The reason I believe this is simple: the Bible affirms it.

Let’s start by thinking about this question: What within Scripture would lead us to believe that Satan’s goal is to go unnoticed?

Personally, I cannot think of a single verse, passage, or theme within the Bible that would cause us to accept this idea. Nowhere—I mean nowhere—do we see Satan trying to convince anyone that he doesn’t exist. Further, this view is logically flawed from the onset. Even if that were the goal, how would Satan go about doing this? It seems to me that the best way to go unnoticed is to, well, keep others from noticing you! That is, he would hide himself from the world.

Satan does no such thing, in either Scripture or reality.

On the contrary, the Bible reveals that Satan repeatedly attempts to convince the world that is he one of the good guys. Note the distinction, here. Satan is not trying to go unseen but is trying to be seen in a positive light.

This was certainly the case when Satan tricked Adam and Even into eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Gen. 3:1-7). He appeared as one who was providing positive direction: an ally who was giving them understanding that would improve their lives. Satan did not leave them alone and remain unnoticed.

Satan, while trying his best to derail Jesus, appeared as someone who would fix Jesus’ problems and improve his situation (Lk. 4:1-13). By tempting him with bread and power over the world, Satan was showing himself to be something of a benefactor. Clearly, Jesus wasn’t buying it.

As I have mentioned innumerable times, Paul even reveals that “Satan masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14).

In these examples and others, we understand something incredibly important: Lucifer realized long ago that true power comes through concealing malevolent intentions beneath a garb of light.

His efforts are not to be unseen but to be seen as holy, virtuous, and good.

____________

Lucifer in Freemasonry

Nowhere is this more evident than in Freemasonry, which is Satanism in disguise. Specifically, it’s Satanism wrapped in Christian trappings. I am not going to elaborate on this now, because my readers understand that I have shown this extensively over the last several years.

With this in mind, I will quickly prove my point. The Masons are well known as a premier charitable organization. They give out scholarships, put on charity functions, and host pancake breakfasts. They were even instrumental in founding children’s hospitals like St. Jude and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.

However, the Freemasons not only believe in Satan but even clearly state that Lucifer is God. Naturally, they worship Satan and not Yahweh.

If you doubt what I am saying, please allow one of the most respected and acclaimed Freemasons in history to plainly affirm this. Albert Pike gave an address in 1889 in France to the highest levels of Freemasonry. This was later reprinted on January 19, 1935, by the English journal The Freemason. In this address, Pike declared:

Also consider these quotes, all from the most well-respected Freemasons of modern history.

Don’t ever let a Freemason tell you that their order doesn’t kneel to Satan. If they do, they are either completely lying or are too low-level within the fraternity to understand its Satanic core.

The main point remains that Freemasonry—Satan’s church that is hidden in plain sight—masquerades as a holy fraternity while secretly pushing the Satanic agenda in all aspects of life.

They do not wish to go unnoticed; they wish to be adored and admired as the “good guys.”

_____________

Satan in the Narcissist

Clearly, there are all manner of so-called “personality disorders” out there, and I have recently questioned whether these are truly psychological issues or spiritual ones.

My belief is that, while psychological factors certainly contribute to the matter, personality disorders are typically spiritual disorders. The reason I speak so frequently about narcissistic individuals is truly best illustrated in this article. If Satan’s greatest trick is to appear as one of the good guys, we need not look any farther than narcissists to see that play out in our world.

Like most things, narcissism can be viewed on a spectrum; there are some who are not as far down the evil path and others who waved goodbye to the last bits of their humanity long ago. One thing that all narcissists manifest, however, is the mask. By this I mean they all appear as something they are not. All of them.

A narcissist’s sole purpose in life is to extract the goodness from others to fill their own needs. When you boil it down, they seek to destroy others. And how do they do it? The mask. The mask is the means to their success. They will typically present themselves to others as good, helpful, loving, selfless, and pure. In other words, they “masquerade as angels of light.” After they have sufficiently sank their vampiric fangs into their prey—and yes, everyone is prey to the narcissist—the mask will drop, and the demonic interior is revealed.

This is truly a horrible sight to behold, and the abuse provided by narcissists is difficult to fully comprehend . . . even for those who have gone through it.

The point is this: narcissists are Satan’s foot soldiers. I sincerely believe that. If you want to see the character of Satan, look at a narcissist. Likewise, if you want to truly understand a narcissist, then do an in-depth study of the character of Satan.

I have evaluated both the narcissist’s and Satan’s characteristics here and here. Rest assured that the two overlap perfectly.

This being the case, narcissistic individuals prove that Satan doesn’t wish to convince the world that he doesn’t exist. Like the narcissist, he actually wants to convince the world that he’s one of the good guys.

There is simply far more power involved in doing so.

Conclusion

The world is not run by atheists. It’s not run by Christians, Jews, Muslims, or any of the like.

However, the world is still run by a religious order.

And what is that religious order? Why, it’s Satanism, of course. Yes, Satanists run this world.

Does the high-ranking Freemason—those who have achieved the 33rd degree and onward into the darkness—tell us they worship Satan? Do the countless narcissists roaming the world in this Satanic Age reveal their allegiance to the Evil One?

No, of course they don’t. What they will do is dress themselves up—often with Christian trappings—and masquerade as virtuous individuals.

You see, if appearing to not exist were the goal, then Satan has failed miserably in his mission. If appearing to not exist were the goal, then why do the world’s “elites” worship him? Why is his eye on the US one dollar bill? Why does the most powerful enterprise on the planet—the Freemasons—claim Satan as their deity and worship the all-seeing eye in their meetings, rituals, and literature?

No, Satan has neither failed in his mission nor failed to take ownership of this fallen world. He has achieved his goal and pulled off what is really his “greatest trick”—which was to convince the world that he is God.

How shocking: the figure that the Bible calls “the god of this world” was, all along, trying to convince us that he really is.

  1. First of all, Satan’s greatest trick wasn’t that he convinced the world that he doesn’t exist. I certainly believe that Satan exists – don’t you? Yes, **some** people believe that Satan doesn’t exist, but most of the time those same people start with an Atheistic worldview. The non-existence of Satan is a direct result of that position (obviously, no God = no Satan).

Second, I don’t think that Satan wants to convince the world that he is “good”. Satan doesn’t care about “good” or “bad” — Satan is Satan, he is what he is and he is unapologetic about that. Sociopath/Psychopath/Narcissist attributes include not feeling remorse or having to apologize for what they are or for their actions. In short, Satan doesn’t care about being thought of as “good”.

Rather, what Satan wants to do above all else is to convince the world that **HE** is “God”. Of course, Satan knows full well who is the one true God. But Satan wants to usurp the Throne. We learn of this in Isaiah 14:13-14. Thus, all of the false religions of the world (including Free Masonry) are all about fulfilling Satan’s goal: remove the one true God from the Throne and to sit Satan upon that Throne.

    1. Hi Jorge,
Thanks for your comments, as always. I certianly agree with your conclusion: that Satan wants to convince us that he is God. That’s exactly the conclusion that I reach as well.

However, I don’t agree he doesn’t want us to think he is good. Internally, you’re right–he doesn’t care a stitch about good or bad. But he does understand, like the narcissist and others, that appearing to be good carries incredible weight. I do think that’s that impetus behind Paul saying that he “masquerades as an angel of light.”

Why would anyone masquerade as a good being, if it not because they know it will help them accomplish their hidden, evil goals?

In the end, we do agree what his ultimate goal is. Maybe just a disagreement on how he seeks to achieve it.

      1. Brian, your argument is well taken, with merit. That said, expanding/clarifying my meaning: Satan masquerades as an angel of light NOT with the objective of appearing as “good”, but rather with the intermediate-objective of deception and the Ultimate objective of being regarded as “worthy” of God’s throne (which, of course, Satan is not). It’s a subtle point that I won’t nit-pick to death. We agree on the main point, and that’s what’s important.

      2. Ahh, I see your point there. No, I think that’s an important distinction. It sort of further illustrates the immense degree of manipulation involved in what Satan is doing. It’s one of those things where there are layers behind layers. That definitely describes the unfathomable evil that is Satan!
